4Mystic Rose Conclave No.464 of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine, originally consecrated in Winchester on March 31st, 2000, has been a beacon of fraternal service and devotion for an extraordinary 25 years. To commemorate its silver jubilee, the conclave held a celebratory ceremony at the Woolston Masonic Centre on September 4th, 2025.
The Red Cross of Constantine is a Masonic order deeply rooted in symbolism and tradition. Its origins can be traced back to the legendary vision of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, who was said to have seen a cross in the sky. This vision is believed to have heralded a new era for Christianity, marking the commencement of the Red Cross of Constantine’s journey.
The Mystic Rose Conclave was named after the emblematic flower that symbolises purity, secrecy, and the unfolding of spiritual wisdom. For 25 years, it has served as a platform for individuals to engage in reflection, personal growth, and fostering connections among themselves. However, like any endeavour, the Conclave has faced challenges along the way. Membership has fluctuated, and balancing personal and fraternal obligations has been a persistent challenge.
Despite these challenges, the Mystic Rose Conclave has maintained its vibrancy and thriving community status. They celebrated their silver jubilee with a ceremony that was truly exceptional. The Intendant General, R.Ill.Kt. Steven Groeger, was present, along with the Deputy Intendant General, Ill.Kt. Mark Denton, and numerous Divisional Officers. They were accompanied by members of the Divisional Sepulchre Guard, making it a truly impressive occasion.

During the meeting, the last remaining founder, V. Ill. Kt. William Whitfield, shared personal anecdotes about the meetings that were had with the other founders that led to the establishment of the Mystic Rose Conclave. Subsequently, Ill. Kt. Mark Gannaway delivered a discourse on the significance of the name ‘Mystic Rose’ and the circumstances that prompted the Conclave to adopt its moniker. Furthermore, we were fortunate to witness an ‘Introduction to and Demonstration of “The Red Cross of Rome & Constantine” Masonic Chivalric Ceremony from 1825’ presented by Ill. Kt. Trevor Gulliver and performed by members of the Conclave.

Following the ceremony, the attendees proceeded to the dining room, where they were treated to a replica of the luncheon served 25 years ago at the Consecration. As a special token, Ill. Kt. Trevor Gulliver compiled a commemorative booklet for each attendee to retain as a memento.
The 25th anniversary of the Mystic Rose Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine transcends the realm of a mere milestone; it serves as a poignant reminder of the potency of friendship, ceremony, and Christian principles.
We extend our sincere hope that the Mystic Rose will continue to flourish and uphold the Orders’ cherished values of Faith, Unity, and Zeal for another 25 years—and beyond!
