Family Church Service in Liverpool

The Order of the Red Cross of Constantine typically holds a Family Church Service approximately every five years.

The last service was in 2015 but the subsequent one was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Order recently held the first Family Church Service in ten years in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on Saturday 18th April 2026.

The Intendant General and his wife travelled to Liverpool on Friday and spent a pleasant evening with other Intendants General and their wives at The Hawksmoor restaurant.

The service was attended by well over 300 members of the order and their friends and families. A full attendance of Intendants General and their Divisional Standards processed the full length of the cathedral to place their standards in the East for the service.

Our Intendant General, R.Ill. Kt. Steven Groeger and his wife Stephanie represented the Division of Hampshire and Isle of Wight along with acting Banner Bearer, Ill. Kt. Alan Krzysica and his wife.  Unfortunately, due to the distance and the meeting clash with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Mark Provincial meeting they were the only representatives from our Division. Hopefully there will be no clashes when the next Family Church Service is held and we can get a few more attendees from the Division.

All that attended witnessed a wonderful service with readings by the Grand Sovereign and Deputy Grand Sovereign and an Easter sermon from the Dean of Liverpool. The Grand High Prelate and Grand Eusebius also participated ensuring full integration of the Order into the Service.

A multitude of hymns were sung with the Choir and the Cathedral organist’s music being the highlights of the day.

Following the service, those dining travelled to Anfield Football Stadium in double-decker buses which provided an impromptu tour of some Liverpool landmarks. Pre-lunch drinks were served while waiting for all attendees to arrive before moving into one of the venue’s suites for a delightful lunch.

Minimal toasts were given, with only a little reference to football, and afterwards everyone departed for home or back to hotels for a night’s stay in Liverpool before returning home the following day.

The Intendant General and his wife extended their stay until Monday and spent the rest of their time in Liverpool exploring the city’s attractions.

If you have not visited Liverpool it is a wonderful place to visit and the Intendant General highly recommends it.
